QU Directory Membership Info Due October 1!

The due date for having member information published in the Big QU Membership directory is due October 1. That's when our Arlington QU Treasurer, me, has to send the data to Big QU.

So, if you want to be in the Big QU directory, your membership form needs to be in to the Arlington QU Treasurer, again that's me. If you need the mailing address you can email arlingtonqu at gmail.com and I will send you the mailing information.

If you have already sent in your information then you are good to go.

If you haven't been receiving Arlington QU emails or if you think your address is wrong, please send an email to arlingtonqu at gmail.com.

If you haven't been receiving the QU Digest, then go to the QUDigest Yahoo! group for more information on how to register or update your email address.

Women in Recovery Program

Check out the article in the District Weekly portion of the Washington Post about the graduation for the Women in Recovery Program.  This is the group for which we made the quilts this summer.  There are some very nice photos (but none of the quilts!!!) Here is the link to the article: For These Graduates, a Course on Sobriety

Mysterious Round Robin

The "Mysterious Round Robin" is a hybrid of a Round Robin and a Mystery Quilt.  We have divided into groups of 8-10.  At our September meeting the groups received the first of 3 fat quarters which are to be incorporated into the quilt. The groups will devise and make a center block, group of blocks, or medallion for their quilt.  This will be brought to the October meeting and shared. In October the groups will receive the next fat quarter, and in November the final fat quarter.  The quilt tops will be shared at the December meeting, and completed for the February meeting. These quilts will be auctioned off at the May auction with the understanding that first they will be displayed at the QU Quilt Show.

The purpose is to give us an opportunity to get to know each other better by working on a project together. We have formed these groups to be geographically close for the most part.  Groups will have time to meet for a portion of the meetings September - December.

2008 Presidential Challenge: Extreme Pincushions

This years Presidential Challenge was to make an Extreme Pincushion! Arlington QU members have out done themselves!

Here's a video of the wonderful pincushions that were brought to our September meeting. More on that meeting in a later entry. Enjoy!

The song title is "Song for Tact" and the artist is binaerpilot.

Project Linus

We are still actively recruiting folks to make small quilts for really sick kids in hospitals. This is a great way to 1)practice, 2)experiment and 3) use up stashed fabrics, so you have room for more!  You can either turn the quilts in at the Cotton Patch in Fairfax, or bring to Laura Savage, who attends almost every bee and meeting.  Laura kindly volunteered to accumulate a stack and deliver them.  If you bring them to us, our Chapter can give you a receipt  to deduct your material costs as a charitable expense.  (My tax man says that's the best you can do, but if anyone knows how we could deduct the value of the quilt, I'd love to hear about it!)
We are a nonprofit organization of quilters. We are a chapter of Quilters Unlimited and are located in Arlington, VA.
